Rules For Dogs in Richmond Parks |

- NO DOGS are allowed in Byrd Park, Maymont Park, or the Azalea Gardens
in Bryan Park.
- NO DOGS are allowed in park recreation areas, on athletic fields, in
park areas equipped or designated at children's play lots, or in any
area posted as No Dogs Allowed.
- DOGS MUST BE ON A LEASH in any City of Richmond park, except in
Barker Park, which is a dog park near the Carillon in Byrd Park.
Exceptions
- Guide dogs, hearing dogs and service dogs as defined in Section
51.5-44 of the Code of Virginia, are exempt from these rules.
- The Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities may issue
special permits for taking a dog into a park. Requests for special
permits must be made in writing and delivered three working days prior
to the time for which the permit is requested. Dogs must have a license
and be vaccinated to receive a special permit.
Fines
Fines of up to $250 can be issued by Animal Control officers or Police.
